Black history month is a celebration of Black culture overall. For us at CashColorCannanbis, that celebration includes music and of course, cannabis. The genre that best fits a celebration of music and cannabis is hip-hop.  

Since 1978, one of the best things to bless our speakers has been hip-hop. When it comes to setting trends, redefining sounds and styles and stamping what’s cool, hip-hop has been it. 

Today, we take a look at emcees who have changed both the music and cannabis industry and newer acts who are paving a new lane. 

We start by taking a look at Wiz Khalifa, Smoke Dza, Curren$y, Camron and more artists who took music and bud to another level.

Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa came into the game blazing stages and joints! His breakthrough mixtape Kush & Orange Juice launched him from indie fan favorite to pop star. Since then, Wiz has gone on to produce a slew of platinum records and a super-dope cannabis line. A early supporter of Raw papers, Wiz has sine learned to use his influence for his own good.

He added cannabis to his business empire when he launched his Khalifa Kush line. Wiz might be making so much green in cannabis that music might become a second thought. Also, probably not! Something tells me that Wiz can sell records and weed at the same time.

Freddie Gibbs

Gangsta Gibbs has a Grammy nomination and a his own strain!

His stellar collaboration album with producer alchemist, Alfredo netted him his first Grammy nod, the Indiana native also has investment in a cannabis line.

Gibbs teamed up with California grower Passifornia to launch Alfredo OG. A indica strain, the packaging features artwork from the album.

Jim Jones

Ever since Jim yelled, “Ballin”, he’s been looking for ways to grow his empire. Aside from music, film and t.v., the Dipset co-founder also has his hands in the cannabis industry.

Along with partner Alex Todd, Jones is part of Saucy Farms and Extracts. The luxury cannabis line works with growers in California and Oregon. One of the most popular products they have right now, Capo Blunt is named after Jones.

Lil Wayne

If you ever listened to a Lil Wayne song, you know that Weezy F. Baby loves to toke up! Some of his best songs feature fire bars about fire bud.

Recently, he officially jumped into the cannabis industry with the launch of GKUA Ultra Premium. Available currently only inside dispensaries in Colorado, the line features high potency cannabis strains and pens. Method Man

Method Man has been a know cannabis connesuoir. The Wu-Tang representer has taking his love of smoking and turned it into a business.

Named after his debut album, his Tical line is more than a money maker for Meth. He’s using the line to help raise money for to start conversations about racial injustice.

The line will be available at four Black-owned dispensaries in California. Their goal is to raise $3 million dollars to aide organizations who tackle subjects like racism in law enforcement and cannabis legalization. Method said in a statement about why he chose this route to support causes he supports

“Personally, it is essential that we use our brand to help bring awareness to the social, systemic and economic injustice in communities that have struggled with oppressive mass incarceration and racially-biased policing procedures,” he said in a statement.”

Redman

The Funk Doctor Spock has been known as a big-time weed smoker. Like Wayne, just listening to his music will remind you how much Red loves the plant. I’ve often joked on the podcast that I learned how to roll a blunt listening to Redman’s “How To Roll A Blunt.”

Yet, his latest venture into the cannabis space is more about the medical side than the recreational side. His partnership with Greenleaf will lead to the launch of CBD infused products.

In a press release, Red stated why he chose this route.

“I chose CannaMarkUSA™ as a partner, as CannaMarkUSA™ provides a solution for consumer safety and encourages companies to Infuse Responsibly™ and provide customers with informed choices on both infused edibles and medical marijuana,” says Redman. “I’m also excited to be a part of a movement to empower the public to demand safe, transparent, direct-on-product labeling on the infused edibles they are ingesting,” says Redman.

Snoop Dogg

When it comes to cannabis and hip-hop, Snoop Dogg is the Godfather. Since helping introduce the world to chronic, Snoop has done more to make cannabis mainstream friendly than anyone prior! He literally has Martha Stewart puffing up.

Snoop has used his income and profile to help fund several cannabis companies. His company Casa Verde raised $100 million in 2020 to invest into more businesses.

Look to see Snoop’s green fingerprints all over the industry for years to come.

Curren$y

New Orleans own, Curren$y made his name on the indie scene alongside his good friend Wiz Khalifa. Like Wiz, his portfolio expands past music and into cannabis. His Jet Fuel OG fits right into his JetLife empire.

A sativa heavy hybrid, the line has been out for sometime now.

Smoke DZA

On the low, Smoke DZA is making really fucking cool to be a stoner.

Smoke alongside his business partner Johnny Shipes has turned his stoner lifestyle into a full lifestyle brand that includes the super successful music festival, The Smokers Club. There’s also word that Shipes and company are opening a dispensary in Michigan. I’m sure DZA won’t be far behind.

Camron

Like his Dipset teammate, Killa Cam has jumped into the cannabis industry. His collaboration with G FIVE Cultivation, his Pink Mink is killing it out in Vegas. Look for more strains to come from the collaboration.
