The XFL will be kicking off soon. The league is promising to the alternative to the NFL. One thing the league won’t do that the other does is test for cannabis.
The league, run by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, will reportedly not include cannabis among their drug testing protocols, according to an American Football Internationalreport. WWE talent – who are considered contractors – are tested for cannabis, however, and fined $2,500 per positive test.
This past May, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck told Sports Illustrated that the league would “prefer not to test for marijuana” but would test for performance-enhancing drugs.
Over the last few seasons, current and past NFL players who openly pushed for the league to relax cannabis rules.
