7 Women in The Cannabis Industry Creating their Own History

Women have been smoking weed since the beginning of time. Although there’s no proof of that it has been recorded that women have been cannabis advocates and allies for centuries. It’s been reported Queen Victoria used weed in the late 1800’s for her menstrual pain. There’s also evidence that suggest Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut may had used cannabis and it’s been recently rumored that even the one and only Oprah Winfrey takes a puff or two according to here best friend Gayle.

Basically women have a bound with weed, which is why there are probably many female entrepreneurs coming into the cannabis industry and creating their own companies and brands. Although the cannabis industry is predominantly male dominated and marketed towards male consumers, female owned cannabis companies are shifting the focus and bringing attention and care to female consumers as well.

In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (March 8)  we wanted to spotlight some of the amazing women that are creating products and experiences for women by women. These ladies are breaking the glass ceiling and creating their own history right now in the cannabis industry.

Olivia Alexander, CEO of Kush Queens

Olivia is the CEO and creator of Kush Queen, a cannabis skincare company that specializes in creating quality topical CBD products. Their incredibly popular Kush Queen bath bombs are now the only CBD product being sold at Urban Outfitters.

Hope Wiseman – Owner & Operator of Mary and Main Dispensary

Wiseman made history by becoming the youngest dispensary owner in America. Her medical marijuana dispensary, Mary & Main, is located in George’s County, Maryland. She also the only black woman to currently own a dispensary in Maryland.

Jane West – Co Founder of Women Grow

Jane West is a cannabis activist and CEO/founder of Women Grow, a ladies only networking group. This group connects women in industry, and offers events and resources. Forbes named West “among the top businesswomen in the cannabis industry”.

Mary Pryor – Co Founder of Cannaclusive

After noticing lack of diversity in the cannabis industry, Pryor created Cannaclusive. Cannaclusive is a visuals and marketing company that specializes in creating content and ads that portrays people of color consuming cannabis.

Jessica Peters – President of Moxie Meds

Jessica is a CBD and terpene specialist, who has used cannabis to improve her own health. Now she is the president of Moxie Meds an all natural cannabis topical brand, produced and thoughtfully designed specifically for women by women.

Lizzy Jeff – Rapper, Influencer & Curator of Zen & Kush

The creator of Zen & Kush, events that encourage and educate guest how to use cannabis (THC & CBD) during intimacy. These events also encourage self love and self confidence, a message that Lizzy preaches often through her music and platform.

Krystal Kitahara – CEO of High Gorgeous & Yummi Karma

After quitting her 9 – 5 job to create her own cannabis company she become one of the most successful cannabis business women in Southern California.
